Brain Tumor Treatment

Generally, treatment of brain tumors requires a combination of treatments, such as surgery, radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy. However, traditional treatment options such as chemotherapy may not be effective for treating metastatic brain tumors. Precision CyberKnife offers patients a non-invasive alternative to surgery, and can be used for brain tumors that are considered inoperable because of their location.

Precision Cyberknife - Mather Hospital

Precision CyberKnife’s sophisticated software can pinpoint the tumor’s exact location in real time using X-ray images taken during treatment. This allows delivery of high-dose radiation while minimizing exposure to healthy tissue by precisely aiming multiple beams of radiation from many different angles. Therefore, radiosurgery is one the most aggressive and effective radiation treatments available for brain metastases. Precision CyberKnife radiosurgery is also frequently used for patients with more than one metastatic tumor, a condition that usually prevents surgery.

The Precision CyberKnife robotic radiation system allows brain tumor treatment without a rigid, invasive head-immobilizing frame. Instead, patients wear a non-invasive, custom-fitted soft mesh mask, resulting in greater patient comfort and shorter treatment time. While whole-brain radiation therapy can require numerous treatments over several weeks, Precision CyberKnife radiosurgery is usually completed one to five sessions and only treats the tumor, not the whole brain. Typically, Precision CyberKnife treatments are completed within five days and patients can resume their normal daily activities.  Please contact us to schedule a consultation at (631) 675-5399.
