The program strives on promoting a work-life balance and ensuring resident wellbeing.

A Resident Wellness Committee was established in 2018 and is represented by selected residents from all programs, GME staff and Program Directors.  The mission of the committee is to promote and protect the well-being of resident physicians at Mather Hospital by actively engaging the pillars of physical, mental, spiritual, social, intellectual, emotional and professional wellness.

Taking the time to bond with faculty and residents outside of the clinical environment is critical to the learning experience and culture of GME at Mather Hospital.  The committee hosts Institutional Wellness Events where all residents/fellows are invited to participate.   Past events include a Meet & Greet to welcome the new incoming class, a faculty member hosted a BBQ at their home, a pumpkin carving contest and much more.  A highlight of the year is Friendsgiving in which residents, faculty, staff and their families attend to share good times over food and conversation.

Our program assigns incoming residents to a senior resident mentor to help acclimate to the hospital and the community.  Studies have shown mentorships are positive influence and can help prevent burnout. The senior resident’s role is to provide information/guidance to the new residents to help make their transition and year as uneventful as possible.  Advice on how to maintain their personal well-being, and the senior resident’s availability when needed are highlighted.

A Medical Research Educator is also available to help guide residents in their scholarly endeavors.

Our residents know staff and faculty are always available – like family.
