Diane Constable of Ronkonkoma struggled with her weight all her life and weighing up to 347 pounds at her heaviest, she decided to attend an informational seminar at Mather Hospital’s Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery™. “I knew at that point what I was going to do. I was going to have gastric sleeve surgery.”
“I’ve been on and off diets my whole life. I was bullied my whole life due to being overweight. This was the best thing I ever did for myself,” she said. “I’m 68 and I’m living my best life now. When I went to the Center, I was about 325 pounds. Now I’m between 175 and 180.”
“I wanted to take hold of my health and get off medication. I had diabetes – gone. My doctor said I’m not even prediabetic now. I had taken high blood pressure meds – gone. My cholesterol numbers are good. My doctor removed me from one of two cholesterol meds.”
But Diane knows that the surgery is just one part of living her best, healthiest weight. The other is maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
“I walk five miles a day. I was never crazy about going to the gym, so I took up walking and I don’t go to sleep until I have my five miles in every day. My energy level is off the roof!”
“Everything changed,” she said. “I’m living my best life and it’s finally all about me. This is my time!”
