38th Annual Mather Golf Classic Honoree:
John Duffy – Long respected as an effective leader among the construction trades, John Duffy is Business Manager and Treasurer of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 138, the union that represents operating engineers who run the heavy equipment throughout Long Island that create the roads, bridges, and buildings that define our economy.
Under John’s tenure, the Loal has grown to over 1500 members, offering employment and training opportunities to all regardless of race, sex, creed, color, religion, or national origin. In addition to creating a diverse membership, John’s leadership has also been instrumental in the creation of the Local’s efforts to recruit and train a new generation of operational engineers required to sustain the region’s growth.
A quiet but strong labor leader, John has long directed charitable funds to a variety of institutions and causes over the years that have strengthened Long Island’s quality of life. His generous support of Mather Memorial Hospital is consistent with that commitment and serves to remind all of us of the important role the construction trades play on so many levels of Long Island life and especially Local 138
