Don’t you want to feel joyful and relaxed during the holidays and less agitated? “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” You remember those lyrics by Andy Williams, don’t you? What happened to sipping warm beverages while listening to joyful holiday songs by the fire?

Unfortunately, sometimes our holidays are filled with tension, anxiety and stress. However, there are some wonderful techniques that will be sure to calm your mind for a more enjoyable holiday season. These tools will leave you feeling less stressed so you can focus on what really matters.

Practice these habits for a happier holiday season:

  • Set aside some time, even if it’s just 15 minutes, to sit by yourself and just breathe. As you take slow, deep breaths focus on the true meaning of the holidays and the good things in your life. Being grateful in the moment while being present with yourself can be extremely refreshing.
  • Spread the love. Being kind to others during a stressful time can make you feel good and improve your day. Hold the door for someone or offer a smile. Show someone else the kindness you wish someone showed to you, and start a wave of goodness and generosity.
  • Let go of what you cannot change. Once you embrace that you can only change yourself and not others, you will be closer to finding peace. You can control the way you act and react, and others may or may not change the way they respond. Accepting this truth will improve your state of mind during the holiday season and your life.

The holidays don’t have to be stressful. Take time to connect with yourself and you will be better able to connect with others. Open your heart to the joy and love that’s all around us!
