We often focus on the creativity and flavor of our main dish and overlook our sides. A healthy complimentary side to finish our meal will help leave us satisfied until our next meal. To keep sides healthy and full of flavor, try using different spices, nuts and herbs. Some of our favorites are basil, thyme, black pepper and cinnamon! Sides can be quick, easy and packed with flavor. Try this low calorie Balsamic Green Beans recipe, adapted from www.CookingLight.com:

Balsamic Green Beans

 Yield: 8 servings (serving size: 3/4 cup)

 Ingredients

  • 2 pounds green beans
  • ¼ cup minced shallots
  • ¼ cup white balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons coarsely chopped almonds

 Preparation

Cook green beans in boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold water. Drain well; set aside.

Combine finely minced shallots with balsamic vinegar. Pour vinaigrette over beans, tossing gently to coat.

Sprinkle with chopped almonds and serve!
