Duties:
Delivers chaplaincy care to patients, their loved ones and staff, as appropriate. Ensures that religious and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones are met in assigned areas.
Job Responsibility
- Applies hospital patient care standards and pastoral care departmental goals in all patient care activities; offers religious and spiritual guidance to patients/families and staff.
- Provides input, as needed, in patient’s interdisciplinary plan of care; demonstrates proficiency in identified counseling skills required in direct patient care.
- Manages time appropriately to meet patient/family needs.
- Promotes a professional atmosphere through courteous communication with patients/families, physicians, and peers; attends/participates in departmental meetings and reviews minutes of all meetings not attended.
- Maintains and develops professional competence through required in-service and educational programs; complies with hospital dress code and maintains a professional image.
- Maintains satisfactory attendance record; reports for duty punctually; introduces self to patient and/or family; stops to offer assistance to anyone who appears lost or confused and displays a positive attitude in all dealings with patients, visitors and staff.
- Listens courteously to patient/family concerns; services the needs of families of deceased patients as requested by staff.
- Regularly visits with patients while giving priority to those in greatest need (as determined by goals and objectives); establishes positive working relationship with all members of the health team as well as with the volunteers.
- Keeps records as required; facilitates the celebration of the sacraments as appropriate to his or her clinical status; is available for Memorial services/funerals.
- Operates under general guidance as work assignments are varied and require interpretation and independent decisions on course of action.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Theology or Religion or Religion Education. Masters preferred. Four units of clinical Pastoral Education. Current National Association of Catholic Chaplains (ANCC) or Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) certification required.
