John thought he had the flu and felt awful, but when his pulse dropped so dramatically and he became short of breath, he immediately called an ambulance.
It was opening night of Mather Hospital’s new Frey Family Emergency Department and Mather was ready for John.
“In the ambulance the paramedics noted John’s abnormal EKG, which they sent ahead to us”, said Adam Wos, MD, Chair of Emergency Medicine. “The ED doctor then activated the cardiac cath lab team right away.”
“There were 15 people waiting for me when I arrived,” recalls John. “It was quite comforting. They already knew I had a heart attack.”
John was taken swiftly to Mather’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab and John received three stents. “The American Heart Association has a goal for performing cardiac intervention within 90 minutes. We did it in 39,” recalls Dr. Wos. “Offering the community this kind of elevated care in the ED is the point of the expansion and I’m thrilled that we are able to work in this beautiful space and give our patients a healing environment that exceeds their expectations.”
“I received fantastic care. Everyone was so professional and empathetic. I was impressed with the facility and with how integrated the care is at Mather,” said John.
