Maggie of Rocky Point is a licensed rehabilitation expert at a Wildlife Rescue Center in eastern Long Island. She takes in animals and rehabs them for release back into wild, but Maggie needed rescuing herself…her arthritis got so bad in her hips, the pain became constant, and she had to take a leave from her job.
Maggie received a double total hip replacement from Mather Hospital’s Orthopedic Surgery Program. “I had my hip surgeries one week apart. As soon as you come out of the surgery, you do not have the pain you had before. It is really a miracle. The alternative would be to end up in a wheelchair.”
“My experience at Mather was amazing. From when you walk through the door, the staff who takes your car, the team that checks you in…I was in awe of how everybody treated me. The nurse orthopedic coordinator and the orthopedic navigator nurse practitioner gave me their cell phone numbers. It makes such a huge difference to have the support system. The staff was amazing.” At age 68 Maggie can rescue animals again and give them a new lease on life… just like Mather Hospital was able to do for her.
Success stories like Maggie’s are achieved with the support of donors like you, who share their appreciation through the Mather Fund.
