PORT JEFFERSON, NY – Robert Giacobbe, DO, has been named Program Director for Mather Hospital’s Internal Medicine (IM) Residency Program. He joined the IM program in 2014 as a clinical supervisor and was appointed Associate Program Director in 2015.

Born and raised in central New Jersey, Dr. Giacobbe came to Long Island in 1986 to attend medical school at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. After obtaining his medical degree, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at NYU/Winthrop University Hospital and joined the Mather Hospital medical staff in 1994.

After 20 years in private practice, Dr. Giacobbe transitioned to Harbor View Medical Services, a subsidiary of Mather Hospital, and has served as Harbor View’s Medical Director since 2016.

Dr. Giacobbe also holds an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Northwell Health and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Advisory Board Company.

He lives in Setauket with his wife and enjoys cycling and woodworking.  He is the proud father of two daughters, one a registered nurse and the other a graduate student in neuropsychology.
