Blood donors are needed for John T. Mather Memorial Hospital’s  annual summer blood drive on Friday, August 14 from 6:30 am until 6:30 pm. The blood drive is open to all community residents.

No appointment is necessary to donate blood. The blood drive will take place in the Bloodmobile parked on the east side of the Hospital near the Thrift Shop. All successful donors will receive gift cards and treat bags as a thank you.

Summer is a critical time for blood supplies. Demand grows with increased motor vehicle, motorcycle and pedestrian accidents. At the same time, blood donations drop significantly as people go on vacation and high schools and colleges, which account for 25 percent of regional blood collection, close or on limited schedules, according to The New York Blood Center.
