Kenneth Roberts, who as President of John T. Mather Memorial Hospital since 1986 has overseen the growth of the community teaching hospital into one of the most respected and highly ranked healthcare institutions on Long Island, was honored recently by Long Island Business News with an Outstanding CEO Award.

The award recognizes business and not-for-profit executives who have consistently demonstrated remarkable leadership, integrity, values, vision and a commitment to excellence, financial performance and community, according to the newspaper.

Under Roberts’ leadership Mather earned the prestigious Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which recognizes quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice; was one of only 182 hospitals nationwide to receive seven consecutive top "A" ratings for hospital and patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog group; consistently ranks among the top Long Island for patient satisfaction; became a teaching hospital in partnership with Stony Brook School of Medicine; and grew to meet the changing healthcare needs of the communities it serves.

Roberts was named President of Mather Hospital after having served as Senior Vice President and Associate Director. Prior to joining Mather, he was Assistant Director of Administration and Administrative Resident at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside and Senior Staff Assistant for Group Health Incorporated in New York.

He received a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Hofstra University; a Master of Public Administration in Health Policy, Planning and Administration from New York University; and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the State University of New York, Oneonta.

Roberts also serves as President and member of the Board of Directors of Mather Health System, Inc., Mather Hospital, Mather Management Corporation and the JTM Health Facilities Foundation. He is also Secretary and member of Island Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and INRC Services Corporation and a member of the Board of Directors of Harbor View Medical.

A member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company (MLMIC), Roberts is certified by the American Hospital Association as a state delegate and a member of the Regional Policy Board 2. He is Past Chairman and member of the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the recipient of the 2011 Monsignor Thomas J. Hartman Humanitarian Award and the 2008 Health Care Hero Award by Long Island Business News for his commitment to quality healthcare on Long Island.

John T.
