John T. Mather Memorial Hospital has been recognized for its patient safety record with The Leapfrog Group’s top “A” Hospital Safety Score – the only Long Island or metropolitan area hospital to achieve that distinction in the latest scoring period. Less than 5 percent of all New York State hospitals received an A grade, and Mather was one of only 832 hospitals nationwide that achieved the top score.

“I congratulate our nurses, physicians, board members and every employee and volunteer who helped us achieve this score,” said Mather President Kenneth Roberts. “Patient safety, nursing excellence and quality care are top priorities at Mather Hospital.”

Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
