Northwell’s Mather Hospital has earned the Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes designation from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and The Leapfrog Group, a prestigious honor awarded to hospitals that demonstrate excellence in the care and treatment of hospitalized patients living with diabetes.

Mather, one of four Northwell hospitals to earn this honor, is among a select group of hospitals nationwide to receive this recognition, underscoring their leadership in providing safe, high-quality care for inpatients living with diabetes.

The designation is awarded through a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the ADA and Leapfrog. It combines the ADA’s authority within the diabetes community and its globally recognized diabetes care standards with Leapfrog’s expertise as an independent, employer-driven national watchdog focused on patient safety and quality.

Hospitals earning the designation demonstrate a strong commitment to implementing evidence-based practices that improve the safety and well-being of people living with diabetes. The recognition highlights excellence in areas such as blood glucose management, patient education, care coordination and the adoption of protocols that support better clinical outcomes for hospitalized patients.

The designation signals to the community that when people living with diabetes seek care for any reason at Mather Hospital, their diabetes-related needs will be fully understood, appropriately accommodated and safely managed throughout their hospital experience.

“This recognition affirms our commitment to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care for individuals living with diabetes,” said Kevin McGeachy, FACHE, president, Mather Hospital. “Our multidisciplinary teams work collaboratively to ensure patients receive evidence-based treatment, education and support throughout their hospital stay. We are honored to be recognized for our efforts to improve outcomes and enhance the quality of life for those we serve.”

Diabetes affects more than 38 million Americans and is a leading contributor to hospitalizations and health complications nationwide. For people living with diabetes, effective inpatient management is critical to reducing risks, improving recovery and enhancing overall health outcomes.

The Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes designation acknowledges the hospitals’ ongoing efforts to advance quality improvement initiatives, strengthen clinical programs and ensure that patients receive comprehensive, coordinated care. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, specialized diabetes management protocols and patient-focused education, Mather Hospital continues to set a high standard for diabetes care across the region.
