Northwell’s Mather Hospital’s Critical Care and Interventional Radiology teams received the internationally acclaimed 2025 DAISY Team Award for their heroic actions and profound impact during a critical, life-threatening emergency.
In 2025, these exceptional teams were confronted with a dire situation with a patient. Their nomination powerfully declared, “the Critical Care and Interventional Radiology teams, alongside their physician and ACP (Advanced Care Provider) partners, exemplified courage, clinical excellence, and empathy… They didn’t just perform tasks; they combined skill and compassion, giving this patient the best possible chance at life.” This award celebrates their extraordinary collaboration, turning a near-fatal scenario into a testament of unwavering dedication and life-saving medical expertise.
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award® was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of complications from an autoimmune disease at the age of 33. During Pat’s hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided for him and everyone in his family. The DAISY Award® is a special honor given to extraordinary nurses for the compassionate contributions they make every day, going above and beyond expectations in science and sensitivity.
