PORT JEFFERSON, NY – Mather Hospital has earned an Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ from Healthgrades, a distinction that places Mather among the top hospitals in the nation for overall patient experience. The award recognizes hospitals for their outstanding performance in delivering a positive experience for patients during their hospital stay. Mather was one of eight New York State hospitals to receive the award, and one of only two on Long Island.

The Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ is based on nine measures related to doctor and nurse communication, hospital cleanliness and noise levels, and medication and post-discharge care instructions. Hospitals in the top 15% with the highest overall patient experience scores are recognized as Outstanding Patient Experience Award recipients.

Mather also received Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Pulmonary Care Award™, Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award™, and Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award™ for 2019.

“Creating a positive patient experience requires the efforts of everyone at Mather, from our nursing and physicians and staff who come into contact with our patients to all the other support staff that help operate the hospital efficiently,” said Mather President Kenneth Roberts. “Congratulations to the entire Mather family for our second major award this year from an independent hospital rating organization and for another step in our vision to be the best community teaching hospital in New York State.”

Mather also earned its 13th top “A” rating for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group for the spring 2019 rating period.  No other hospital in New York State has earned more “A’s” than Mather. The Leapfrog Group is an independent, national not-for-profit organization founded more than a decade ago by the nation’s leading employers and private health care experts that strives to make giant “leaps” forward in the safety, quality and affordability of health care in the U.S. by promoting transparency through our data collection and public reporting initiatives.
