Northwell’s Mather Hospital earned its 24th “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. This marks Mather Hospital’s 9th consecutive “A” rating and positions Mather as the leader in Suffolk County for “A” Hospital Safety Grades. Leapfrog assigns an “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
“We are incredibly proud to once again receive an “A” from The Leapfrog Group, marking our 24th top safety grade, the most of any hospital in Suffolk County,” said Mather Hospital President, Kevin McGeachy. “This exceptional record of sustained excellence distinguishes Mather Hospital as a leader in patient safety. It serves as powerful validation for our community that they can consistently trust us to provide safe, high-quality and patient centric care.”
“Mather Hospital deserves recognition for its unwavering focus on protecting patients and delivering safe care, earning an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.” “Sustaining this level of excellence over time shows a true, organization-wide commitment to making patient safety a top priority every single day.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
