PORT JEFFERSON, NY ― In an effort to promote good skin health during the summer months, Mather Hospital and the Village of Port Jefferson have partnered to provide  free SPF 30 sunscreen lotion dispensers throughout the village.

The dispensers are located at East Beach, West Beach, Jeanne Garant Harborfront Park, Rocket Ship Park, the Port Jefferson Country Club, Centennial Beach and HFP Turtle Park.

“Mather Hospital is happy to provide this service to our community to raise awareness about skin cancer and the need for protection from the sun’s harmful rays,” said Mather President Kenneth Roberts.

“The Village is always thrilled to partner with Mather and especially with this program to provide protection from the sun as so many families venture to our beaches and our Country Club’s golf and tennis facilities for recreation and some important R&R during COVID,” said Port Jefferson Mayor Margot Garant.

Sunscreen should be applied at least 15 minutes before exposure to the sun and should be reapplied periodically, especially after swimming or sweating, medical experts say.
