Northwell’s Mather Hospital announced their accreditation from Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Center of Excellence in Bariatric Revision Surgery, the first in the U.S., as well as re-accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Robotic Surgery. Additionally, Arif Ahmad, MD, has been accredited as a Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Robotic Surgery and Bariatric Revision Surgery. These accreditations recognize Mather’s commitment to deliver the highest standard of quality patient care and safety. Attaining accreditation as a Center of Excellence from SRC signifies that Mather Hospital has met nationally and internationally recognized standards. The accreditation follows an intense survey by SRC, an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the safety, efficacy and efficiency of surgical care worldwide. The bariatric surgery program has been accredited by SRC every three years since 2007, and the robotic surgery program since 2016.
“This is a truly historic moment for Mather Hospital,” says Kevin McGeachy, president, Mather Hospital. “Achieving SRC re-accreditation is always a significant marker of quality, but to also be recognized as the first Center of Excellence in Bariatric Revision Surgery in the entire country is nothing short of groundbreaking. It is a profound testament to the unparalleled dedication, innovative spirit and tireless work of every single member of our phenomenal team, and we are incredibly proud of Dr. Arif Ahmad for his well-deserved Master Surgeon distinction. We are not just raising the bar; we are setting a new national standard for specialized patient care.”
“Revisional bariatric surgery requires special surgical skills, and the procedure is made more precise and safer with the robotic approach,” says Dr. Arif Ahmad, director of Mather Hospital’s Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and a world-renowned expert in robotic bariatric surgery.
Healthcare facilities and surgeons seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements. These requirements include surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment. Inspectors educate staff in the accredited departments in best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.
“We’re proud to recognize Mather Hospital for its commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients,” said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC. “This accreditation signals that this facility is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”
