Northwell’s Mather Hospital received five stars from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the third consecutive year, the highest rating possible using data that evaluates outcomes, patient experience and process. Mather was one of only four Long Island hospitals to earn the top rating.
“Achieving a five-star rating once is a significant accomplishment. Maintaining it for three consecutive years is a testament to our dedicated staff and a relentless pursuit of providing the best possible care to our patients,” said Mather President Kevin McGeachy.
In addition to Mather, Northwell’s Glen Cove Hospital, Huntington Hospital, Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut each achieved five stars from CMS as part of its 2025 CMS Star Quality Rating System. Only 10 percent of the 4,609 star-rated hospitals nationwide earned five-star status, which used Care Compare data between 2020-2023. Sharon Hospital was formerly operated by Nuvance Health. Northwell completed its merger with Nuvance in May.
CMS, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, created a five-star rating to help consumers identify healthcare facilities by quality metrics, which include patient outcomes such as mortality, safety of care, readmissions, patient experience and timely and effective care.
