Welcome to the Mather Hospital Gastroenterology Fellowship Training Program. We offer a 3-year ACGME accredited training program with 2 fellows per year, making a total of 6 gastroenterology fellows. Our primary goal is to provide comprehensive training in gastroenterology and hepatology. Our fellows have the distinct advantage of training at Mather Hospital, a well-respected community hospital almost 100 years in existence, with an Internal Medicine residency and rapidly becoming a hub for specialist training. It has the support of a large tertiary institution that provides numerous academic and clinical opportunities.

Although ours is a new program, we have the faculty expertise of some of the countries’ leading GI programs. Our faculty are highly trained and experienced in all aspects of gastroenterology including inflammatory bowel disease, pancreaticobiliary, general GI, motility and endoscopy. They are dedicated not only to teaching clinical Gastroenterology and endoscopy, but also to mentoring and modelling the highest ethical standards of practice.
The first year is spent on inpatient and outpatient rotations, predominantly at Mather, with an emphasis on learning the basics of gastroenterology and endoscopy. During the second and third years, fellows have dedicated hepatology and interventional/advanced endoscopy rotations and the ability to select from many different electives offered within the Northwell/Mather system.
We use a structured core curriculum, didactics, case conferences, journal clubs, QA/M&Ms, radiology and pathology conferences, clinical rotations, mentoring as well as self- directed learning, in order to ensure that milestones are met. Throughout training there is an emphasis on both clinical and academic excellence. There are opportunities for participation in clinical research with dedicated research faculty on staff to mentor and guide projects, and a monthly research conference.
