Mather Hospital’s 31st Annual Outdoor Sculpture Show to Feature Works by Local Artists
May 19, 2011
Mather Hospital will once again showcase the works of local artists this summer at its 31st Annual Outdoor Sculpture Show. An opening reception will kick off the show on Friday, June 17 from 6-8 p.m. in the hospital courtyard.
The show will feature more than 35 works in a variety of media including clay, colored glass, iron, bronze, wood, steel and copper. The sculptures, created by predominantly Long Island artists, will be on display at the Hospital through August 31st. Larger works are displayed on the Hospital’s lawns. The show is free and open to the public. All of the sculptures are for sale, and 20 percent of proceeds is donated to Mather Hospital.
The annual summer tradition allows local artists to display their work to the community and helps provide cheer for patients and visitors. The show also allows Mather Hospital to support local artists and to show appreciation to people who donate to the not-for-profit community hospital. The event is held in cooperation with the Brookhaven Arts & Humanities Council and is sponsored by the Council and BRI-TECH.
John T. Mather Memorial Hospital is an accredited 248-bed, non-profit community hospital dedicated to providing a wide spectrum of high quality healthcare services to Suffolk County residents, showing compassion and respect and treating each patient in the manner we would wish for our loved ones.
