Local Kids Collect Stuffed Animals for Sick Children as Part of Mather Hospital’s “Project Hugs???February 14, 2011
Dozens of stuffed animals appeared in the lobby of Mather Hospital last week courtesy of local girl scouts and school children who collected the toys for the hospital’s “Project Hugs???, which comforts sick children.
The Teddy bears and other stuffed toys were collected by Miller Place Girl Scout Troops 2383 (fifth graders) and 1164 (9th graders) and by children at the Laddie A. Decker Sound Beach School in Miller Place and Harbor View Nursery School in Port Jefferson.
Dorothy Perricone, Director of Volunteer Services at Mather, said the stuffed animals will be distributed to children and other patients in Ambulatory Surgery, the Emergency Department, laboratory, and “anybody who needs a hug; anybody who needs some TLC.???
