Mather Hospital — A Caring
Place... For Caring People
A tradition of caring…
John T. Mather Memorial Hospital is a 248 bed not-for-profit
community hospital. It offers a comprehensive range of services,
supported by advanced medical technology.
The tradition of compassionate patient care is due in large
part to the efforts of the dedicated members of the Mather
Hospital Family: medical staff, trustees, employees, volunteers,
benefactors and friends.
Volunteers have been a part of the Mather Hospital Family
since 1958, and in that time, volunteers have contributed many
thousands of hours of service. Mather Hospital relies on the
generosity of these individuals who are willing donate their
time, skills and compassion to enhance the care provided to
our patients.
As members of the Mather Hospital Family, we embrace the ideal
of providing patient care of the highest quality, while showing
compassion and respect, and treating each patient in the manner
we would wish for our loved ones. By becoming a volunteer,
you can share in our commitment and become a valued member
of the Mather Hospital Family.
Become a member of our Hospital Family…
At Mather Hospital, volunteers help provide the special touch
that can make a patient’s stay more comfortable. Volunteer
assignments range from assisting inpatient care areas to staffing
the reception area and serving as hospitality volunteers or
patient representatives.
Volunteering offers the benefits of developing new interests,
making new friends and most importantly, gaining personal satisfaction
by making a difference in a patient’s hospital stay.
Volunteering offers opportunities for retirees, professionals,
homemakers and students. Flexible scheduling is available to
provide for individual skills and personal needs.
All volunteers receive free parking and a meal allowance per
shift in the hospital dining room.
Who can volunteer?
Virtually anyone may become a volunteer at Mather Hospital.
The minimum age requirement for Junior Volunteers is 14.
There is no maximum age limit as long as the individual is
physically able to work on selected assignments.
Special volunteer programs may be developed to meet the needs
of schools, businesses and other community organizations.
Volunteer requirements…
Individuals who like meeting new people and who have a sincere
desire to help others make great volunteers! At Mather Hospital,
volunteers are expected to work at least one half-day (four
hours) each week, sign in upon arrival, report to their assignments
on time, and sign out when leaving. A minimum commitment of
100 hours per year is requested with the exception of summer
placements for junior volunteers.
Volunteers are required to wear uniforms at all times. It
is important for patients and hospital staff to be able to
easily identify volunteers. In addition, identification badges
must be worn to ensure the safety of volunteers, patients and
visitors.
