| Mather Nurses: Specialists in Caring |
Our
skilled, close-knit staff and progressive medical care make
Mather Hospital what it is…
a positive and welcoming place for both our
staff and patients. We provide wonderful
opportunities for you to develop your skills,
while working alongside excellent physicians
and educators with some of the finest medical
equipment available.
This is a place where you can truly find "quality of life" at work!
Nursing is a science, but caring is an art!
That's something Mather Nurses understand.
They combine the compassion and understanding
of a friend with the responsiveness and skills of
an experienced medical professional. At Mather,
the highest quality nursing is a proud tradition.
From Shipbuilder to Founder
John Titus Mather was a successful
local shipbuilder from Port Jefferson in
the early 20th century. Following his
death, his will called for the creation of
Brookhaven's first general hospital.
Mr. Mather wanted the Hospital he
envisioned to be “a success and credit
to the community.” Still a community
hospital, what we are today far surpasses
the vision of our namesake.
"Mather is commited to providing the best possible care available, demonstrating compassion for each patient and treating them in the same manner we'd wish for our loved ones. We are dedicated to meeting and exceeding the expectations of our patients and their families."
This is the "People's Hospital"
John T. Mather Memorial Hospital is a not-for-profit hospital — we don't report
to a group of stockholders; we report to
our staff and patients. We reinvest funds
in healthcare, new programs and services,
and the latest in equipment and facilities.
We make the health of our community —
not corporate profits — our mission.
Mather Advantage
Mather is a unique community hospital. We reject the
“production-line” environment — our hospital is anything
but a revolving door of employees. Much of our staff has
been here for years and enjoys growing along with us.
Even our administration team has been at Mather for over
15 years! We truly operate as a family… staff and patients
alike. Our nurses appreciate the fact that our management
is so accessible. And that’s what makes us special.
Our patients realize that at Mather we care about them…
not just for them, We are a community hospital in every
sense of the word. We provide numerous patient care services and
have been a pioneer on Long Island. Our innovative
state-of-the-art facility boasts a robotic laboratory and
computerized patient charts. Mather has always been at
the forefront of technology. We are responsible for: - The first Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Unit on Long Island.
- The first successful In Vitro Fertilization
program on Long Island.
- The first Chest Pain Emergency Room on Long
Island.
- The first Wound Care Center in Suffolk County.
- The first Inpatient Adolescent Psychiatric Unit in a
community hospital in Suffolk County.
With firsts like these, shouldn’t Mather Hospital be your first choice?
Mather Education
We want our new nurses to feel like part of Mather’s family
right away. To achieve this, we offer a comprehensive and
individualized orientation program to welcome you. A preceptor
program is available to new grads to allow a gradual
transition into professional nursing practice responsibility.
Once acclimated, the education process is ongoing. The
Mather Nursing Education Department continually provides
our nursing staff with the tools they need to be the best
and brightest Long Island offers. We schedule education,
teaching and training programs dealing with important
topics that allow our nurses to update professional
knowledge and skills. Enhancing your nursing ability
means we provide enhanced nursing care.
