Support Group for Newly Diagnosed Breast Cancer Patients

The Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital offers a free, eight-week support group program for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. The spring session begins on Thursday, April 16, 2009 for eight consecutive Thursday evenings from 5:15-6:45 p.m., concluding June 4.

Pre-registration is required, and an individual intake session is conducted prior to registration. New registrants are accepted through the third week of the program. Meetings are held at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson.

About Sonny Levinbook:
Sonny Levinbook, LCSW, has a BA in psychology and a master in social work, and has been in practice for almost two decades. She was an oncology social worker at Mather Hospital for five years, and currently practices out of her offices in South Setauket and Commack. She was trained by Dr. Bernie Siegel’s staff on how to run Exceptional Cancer Patients (ECaP) – oriented support groups. Held at the Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital, these support groups run throughout the year for newly diagnosed women with breast cancer and focus on getting on with life after a diagnosis of breast cancer.
