Salon Owner Raises $425 for Fortunato Breast Health Center
February 24, 2009
After MaryBeth Mastando lost her too-young sister, Kathryn Gruber, to cancer, she was determined to help others struggling with the dreaded disease.
Recently, Mastando sold pink (to commemorate the fight against breast cancer) hair extensions at her shop, Blondie’s in Centereach. She then decided to donate all of the proceeds--$425—to the Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital, because her family members have been patients at the center and shared very positive experiences.
“They’ve told me how wonderful the staff is,” said Mastando. “Anytime you are welcomed with open arms is a blessing, especially when it has to do with your health. I wanted to support the work they do.”
The Fortunato Breast Health Center provides state-of-the-art breast healthcare while offering a sense of comfort, privacy and assurance. For information about the center or to make a mammogram appointment, call 476-2771 ext. 1.
