Mather Hospital Lymphedema Center Honors Outstanding Patient
February 24, 2009

To commemorate National Lymphedema Awareness "D" Day, the Lymphedema Treatment Center at Mather Hospital honored Christine Socci of Mount Sinai whose courage and determination is an inspiration to others who struggle with disease.
“We honor Christine because she is an exemplary patient who worked diligently on her therapy and saw great results,” said Anne Babcock of the Lymphedema Treatment Center. Therapist Shannon Kroslowitz added, “Christine does everything you ask her to do, which is so important because if you follow the home program, it facilitates results.”
“Everyone here treated me with the highest regard … as if I was a family member,” said Christine, who received a certificate of merit as part of the honor. “I received individual attention from everybody at the Lymphedema Center. They were great.”
Lymphedema is a chronic condition that results when circulatory or lymph systems are damaged and proteins, cells and water begin accumulating in the body’s soft tissue, resulting in swelling. The Lymphedema Treatment Center at Mather uses a specially designed program to help patients manage the condition.
