Pet Therapy

Our patients and staff love our canine visitors. Mather’s Animal Assisted Therapy Program has been proven to calm patients and relieve stress ultimately leading to better patient outcomes. Our patients benefit greatly from the dogs visits. The program is completely donor funded. Without community support this program would not exist. Help bring a warm wet nose to Mather and brighten someone’s day.

Behavioral Health Services

Mather Hospital’s Behavioral Health Services offer programs that address specific psychiatric conditions and addictions, with inpatient, outpatient and partial hospitalization (return home daily after treatment/session) options. The Eating Disorders Program offers the only partial hospitalization program for adolescents with eating disorders in Suffolk County and the only program of its kind for adults on Long Island. Our Behavioral Health programs include an inpatient adult psychiatric unit, an inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit, Adult Partial Hospitalization Program, Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program, Mental Health Clinic and Substance Abuse Program.

Cancer Care

Cancer Care at Mather Hospital addresses a wide range of conditions, including breast, lung, colon, prostate, kidney, bladder, in-situ breast/genitourinary, and skin. Services include the Fortunato Breast Health Center as well as breast cancer support groups; Lung Cancer Screening Program and Lung Cancer Support Group; colon cancer outreach through distribution of colon cancer detection kits at health fairs; Lymphedema Treatment Center; and prostate cancer education through seminars presented by Precision CyberKnife of New York, a program of Mather Hospital at New York Cancer & Blood Specialists in East Setauket, NY. Contessa Nadia Farber Emergency Pavilion

The highly trained Emergency Department staff is always ready to handle a variety of unexpected medical crises that require immediate attention. Each patient who comes to the Emergency Department is triaged to assess the level and urgency of care needed. This allows the staff to identify and treat the most critically ill and injured patients first. Since cardiac disease and related disorders are the leading cause of death in our community, Mather’s Emergency Department includes a certified Stroke Center designed to quickly diagnose and ensure timely treatment of patients suffering heart attacks, strokes and related disorders.

The Fortunato Breast Health Center

The Fortunato Breast Health Center at Mather Hospital provides state-of-the-art breast healthcare in surroundings that offer a sense of comfort, privacy and the assurance that each patient’s individual needs will be met. The Center has earned a three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), which is given only to centers that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality breast care and undergo a rigorous review of their performance.

Mather offers free screenings for under and uninsured individuals, which are underwritten by the Breast Center’s Fund for the Uninsured. Mather’s trained healthcare professionals offer regular 3D mammograms, expert follow-up care, education for patients, families and the community, breast cancer support groups, nurse navigators and dedicated radiologists.

General Hospital Fund

The General Hospital Fund exists to help our community support patient care programs, services and equipment at Mather Hospital. Every dollar you donate to the General Hospital Fund stays in the community and enhances the level of care at our hospital. Mather Hospital is a critical community asset that touches the lives of people in every neighborhood in north Brookhaven Town and the surrounding communities. With your support, we can help ensure the Hospital is ready for you and your loved ones when they need it most.

Lymphedema Treatment Center

The Lymphedema Treatment Center at Mather is one of the largest hospital-based programs on Long Island. Lymphedema is a swelling of the body’s soft tissue, usually in an extremity, caused by an accumulation of proteins, cells and water. Although lymphedema is a chronic condition, it can be managed with proper care and treatment. The program also conducts community lymphedema screenings.

Neurosciences Center

The Neurosciences Center at Mather Hospital is a consortium of healthcare professionals for the advanced diagnosis and treatment of brain and spine conditions.

The Center consists of Mather’s Department of Neurosurgery, Precision CyberKnife of New York, the Back and Neck Pain Center, Mather’s Stroke Center, advanced Imaging Services and Outpatient Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Services.

Our team of physicians and expert clinical staff work together with a commitment to diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating those with neurological illnesses.

Nursing

The culture at Mather is built on tradition, history and nursing excellence. The nursing department vision is to support, develop, mentor nursing leadership to empower all, to partner in the delivery of patient and family centered care. This culture was key to Mather earning the prestigious Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for our quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice.
The active involvement and collaboration of all nursing staff is an important investment in the advancement of nursing care here at Mather. The nurses’ voice is heard at the unit level through practice, quality and research, professional development, and technology councils.  We are committed to lifelong learning and support their professional growth.

Palliative Care Services

Palliative medicine is specialized care for patients with a serious illness that is both a philosophy of care and an organized, highly structured system for delivering care. The goal of palliative medicine is to prevent and relieve suffering and provide the best quality of life for people living with pain, complex symptoms and stresses of chronic illness. Palliative medicine expands traditional medical treatments to include the goals of enhancing quality of life for patient and family, helping with decision making and providing opportunities for personal growth. Palliative Medicine is delivered with a team approach, which includes nurse practitioners, nurses and physicians who work together to deliver coordinated, effective palliative care for our patients.

Sleep Disorders Center

Physicians certified in sleep medicine can help patients identify causes of their sleep disruption in an effort to minimize the impact that a lack of quality sleep can have on their quality of life and overall health. The Sleep Disorders Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine for meeting nationally recognized standards of excellence in healthcare, education and research. The Center can diagnose and treat sleep disorders in children as young as 2 years old.

Surgical Services

The state-of-the art Cody Ambulatory & Inpatient Surgery Pavilion consists of 11 operating rooms for a wide range of surgeries from minimally invasive and laparoscopic procedures to complex surgeries . Our Ambulatory Surgery Service achieves consistently high patient satisfaction scores. In addition to general surgery, our state-of-the-art surgical center offers several specialty programs including weight loss, eye, joint replacement, and vascular surgeries.

Weiss Center for Pain Management

The Weiss Center for Pain Management at Mather Hospital helps patients manage their chronic pain so they may return to a more normal lifestyle and improve their quality of life. The Weiss Center treats many types of pain, including those resulting from cancers, non-malignant pain syndromes, arthritis, fibromyalgia, headaches and scars, as well as lower back, neck, oral, facial and spinal pain.

Wound Treatment Center

Since 1991, the Wound Treatment Center at Mather Hospital has been providing comprehensive treatment for chronic or non-healing wounds, allowing patients to enjoy a better quality of life. At our facility in Port Jefferson, a team of qualified healthcare professionals provides patients with a complete case management program, which begins at assessment, flows through extended treatment and includes support with insurance coverage for care and products.
